Ostrich Fern (Matteuccia struthiopteris)
This large, fast-spreading fern can grow up to 6 feet tall and 2-3 feet wide and take over an area quickly. It is one of the most common native ferns in North America. The light green sterile leaves (fronds) hide the less abundant spiky, dark brown fronds.
Japanese Painted Fern (Athyrium niponicum)
The Japanese painted fern is much slower-growing, growing about 1 foot a year up to 18 inches, which is made up for in its varied color. The fronds are triangular and silver, with grayish-green and purple.
Heuchera – Grape Expectations

Bleeding Heart ‘Alba’ (Dicentra spectabilis)
The bleeding heart is a perennial that requires low maintenance and grows in the shade. It is rightfully named because of its heart-shaped flowers – the alba variation because they are white. They grow to 2-3 feet tall and spread 1-3 feet.
