All programs of the Historical Society are free to members and students.
Last Month's Program
April 5, 2017
Author, Ronald Sloto, will discuss mining in Berks County and the Boyertown Area.
He will use a Power Point Presentation to demonstrate
the importance and history of iron ore mining. Mr. Sloto is the author
of the book, The Mines and Minerals of Berks County, PA.
This was an excellent, enjoyable program.
May 3, 2017- Bob and Susie presented a travelling antique show
of vintage and antique laundry implements. They used the implements to explain
the Wash Day process. Washing clothing was both time consuming and physically taxing,
a chore that occupied most women on Mondays, the traditional day to wash clothing.
This was an excellent well received program.
June 7, 2017 – Just Passing Through, a history of people travelling through
Berks county during the 1800s
October 4, 2017 – “The Pearl of Richmond School”, a talk by Dori Hoch
about attending school in a one room schoolhouse,
based on her book by the same title
November 1, 2017 – Paul Druzba presenting a talk on the history of
Carsonia Park, books will be available for purchase.
December 6, 2017 - a Christmas show and tell,
people are invited to bring in a favorite gift for display
( to be set up a few days ahead) and
attendees will be asked to match the gifts to their owners.
Each person will be asked to make a few brief comments about their gift
